Luanda - The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, met today with the head of Japan's parliamentary delegation to the 147th IU Assembly, Kameora Yoshitami, with whom he analyzed aspects related to bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
Upon leaving the meeting, accompanied by members of the delegation led by him, the Japanese Member of Parliament (MP) informed the press that the Angolan statesman emphasized the level of bilateral cooperation, predicting its growth, especially in collaboration with the private sector.
He stated that he had received information from the President of the Republic about the Port of Namibe renovation project, the status of the construction of new cities, as well as the state of the Angolan economy, having been impressed and convinced that bilateral relations will continue to grow.
On the other hand, he congratulated Angola for successfully holding the IPU Assembly, which brings together 179 Member States in Luanda, proving the country's power and competence.
End of mission
Also today, the Angolan Head of State received the Egyptian ambassador, Mohamed Safuat, who went to the Presidential Palace to bid farewell greetings, after four years of mission.
The Egyptian representative told press that he had discussed relations between the two countries and their development over the last four years, the highlight of which was the visit to Angola by the President of Egypt, Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, in June this year.
He declared that relations between the two countries are very good and that during the last four years “there has been a lot of development”, with new Egyptian companies in the Angolan market, specifically in the field of infrastructure and construction.
At another time, João Lourenço also received farewell greetings from the Polish ambassador, Piorr Mysliwiec, whose mission in Angola lasted eight years.
He made it known that relations between the two countries are good, but regretted that he was not very satisfied with the economic relations which, in his opinion, could be much more dynamic and intense. He pointed out several reasons, with emphasis on the Covid-19 pandemic and the war in Ukraine, a country neighboring Poland.
The diplomat sees great potential in the relations, being convinced that, soon, more economic missions from Poland will come to Angola, within the scope of economic diplomacy.
Regarding the trade balance, he said it was very low, with an exchange of around 30 to 40 million dollars, which he considers almost insignificant, with companies involved in civil construction, wood processing, and IT.
He pointed out as a field of interest for cooperation, with the potential to become fruitful, the partnership between higher education institutions, mentioning that there is already a good start with the Mandume ya Ndemufayo University, in the province of Huíla, and others in Uíge, Benguela and Namibe.
Another ambassador who also went to offer farewell greetings to the Angolan President was that of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, Jo Pyong Chol, who was in the country for five years. PA/ADR/DOJ
