Luanda – Angolan president João Lourenço on Thursday in Luanda reaffirmed the government's efforts in improving health services in the country.
The president made the statement after the inauguration of the first phase of the construction of the Main Military Hospital/Higher Education Institute, situated in Luanda province which has a modern technology to provide specialized assistance for staff and their families.
João Lourenço highlighted that the health sector will always be a priority, adding that the government will continue to invest in all health fields from the primary to the tertiary, despite the permanent struggle to find the financial resources needed to accomplish important projects.
The president said that in addition to this unit, four more regional hospitals are being built, which could be completed next year, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of national independence.
João Lourenço stressed that the government aims to strengthen the provision of medical care for Angolan military personnel and their families, as well as for the National Police.
As for the civilian side, the president said that the new Viana General Hospital will be inaugurated in April, and that throughout the year general hospitals in Cacuaco (Luanda), Sumbe (Cuanza-Sul), Ndalatando (Cuanza -Norte) and Ondjiva (Cunene) will be opened.
"As you can see, there is no such thing as too little attention to health and we will put available the resources needed to reduce the deficit we still have in hospital units", Lourenço said.
The president emphasized that the government will also pay full attention to the need to train and hire medical staff who will work in these units, which will be an ongoing process.
"Angolans, in general, fought to achieve peace, but if we want to be fair, we have to highlight the armed forces for the contribution they made to peace", the president said.
