Luanda - The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, on Thursday asked the secretaries of state to work in an organised and hard way with their respective ministers, in order to improve the quality of governance.
While speaking at the swearing-in ceremony of the 47 Secretaries of State that he appointed Wednesday, the Angolan President noted the need to start working well at the beginning of the mandate.
“We have a lot to do and time is not enough. Five years pass quickly. This is the time to start”, said the Head of State.
At the time, President Lourenço stressed as well that he expects more dedication to work from the officers who have been sworn in.
The Head of State who took Office on 15 September as President of the Angolan Republic, last Tuesday swore in his cabinet staff, ministers of State, ministers and provincial governors.
The new Government is composed of 26 ministerial departments as a result of the 24 August general election won by the MPLA and its candidate, João Lourenço, who will have five years in Office.
The role of the Secretaries of State include assisting the minister in the areas sub-delegated to them, coordinating, technically executing and controlling the activity of the sub-sector.
Meanwhile, the law establishes that the Secretaries of State have the task to represent the ministers when they are absent or unavailable as well as to exercise other powers in accordance with the legislation.
