Luanda – Angolan President João Lourenço is attending Saturday the 13th Extraordinary Session of the General Assembly of the African Union (AU) taking place from Johannesburg, South Africa, by videoconference.
The Angolan Head of State speaks at any time during the meeting, which was opened by the President of South Africa and the African Union, Cyril Ramaphosa.
The work agenda to which ANGOP had access includes reading the Declaration by the chairman of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, and by the secretary general of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), Wamkele Mene.
The agenda features the review of a report by the AfCFTA leader and promoter, Issoufou Mahamadou, also President of Niger, and the statement by the Heads of State and Government.
The programme covers hand over the instruments for the start of commercial transactions, by the chairman of the African Union Commission, to the member states and the secretary general of the AfCFTA.
A motion of thanks is also expected from representatives of the private sector, pledges of support from strategic partners and the adoption of the decision establishing the political and legal basis for the operational of the AfCFTA from January 1, 2021, with the lists of concessions.
At the end of the session, the Johannesburg Declaration on the Beginning of Commercial Transactions under the continental Free Trade Area will be adopted.
