Luanda – Angolan president João Lourenço on Tuesday in Luanda, expressed sorrow over the victims of the floods that battered the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, causing more than 135 deaths.
The latest figures from the Brazilian authorities show that the storms and floods that have battered the region since the end of April have caused 136 deaths, 125 missing and 756 injured.
In a message to his Brazilian counterpart, Lula da Silva, the Angolan President said that he has been following with concern and regret the difficult situation caused by the floods, which have resulted in serious human and material consequences.
"I express, at this time when you are facing this tragedy of worrying proportions, the solidarity of the Angolan people and government, who associate and share the pain of the Brazilian people," reads the letter.
To the families bereaved as a result of this natural disaster, João Lourenço sends his most heartfelt condolences. VIC/DAN/AMP
