Luanda - The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, today (Tuesday) congratulated his Sao Tome and Principe's counterpart, Evaristo Carvalho, for the commemoration of the 46th anniversary of Independence of the Portuguese-speaking island nation, celebrated on Monday.
In his congratulatory message, the Angolan Head of State expressed the wish that the great aspirations of the Sao Tomeans for progress, development and the building of a prosperous nation be materialized, based on the effort and good deeds of all the living forces of this African archipelago nation.
In the message to which Angop had access, president Joao Lourenço stresses that he believes in the enormous possibilities for cooperation between the two countries and expresses hope that they will be taken advantage of.
He advocates the need to work together, "in order to intensify common actions that lead to the implementation of projects of reciprocal interest, which favour economic growth and the welfare of the populations of the respective nations.
The Angolan president wished the people of Sao Tome and Principe good health, success and prosperity.
Sao Tome and Principe gained independence from Portugal on 12 July 1975. The archipelago consists of the islands of São Tomé and Príncipe and several islets.
