Luanda – President João Lourenço on Wednesday congratulated the people and government of Côte d'Ivoire for the 64th anniversary of the country's independence.
According to a note posted on the Presidency of the Republic social media, the congratulation was expressed by the Angolan statesman in a message addressed to his Côte d'Ivoire counterpart, Alassane Ouattara.
"on this date of great significance for the people of Côte d’Ivoire, I express my renewed appreciation for the friendship, solidarity and sympathy with which you received me in your country, on an official visit last June, during which we discussed in depth various aspects that give shape and content to existing bilateral relations, envisaging on that occasion measures that will contribute to their deepening, with tangible reciprocal results" reads the message.
In the same note, President João Lourenço expressed hope that the two governments will be able to start, as soon as possible, joint actions that will favor the implementation of the agreements reached between the respective countries.
Bilateral relations
The republics of Angola and Côte d'Ivoire established their first political-diplomatic agreements around four decades ago, including the General Agreement on Economic and Scientific Cooperation of June 1985, signed in Yamoussoukro.
This followed the opening of the two countries' diplomatic representations in 1984 and the signing of the Agreement for the Establishment of a Bilateral Cooperation Commission.
However, these actions took on a new dimension with the Angolan statesman's latest trip to the country in June this year, during which 14 new legal instruments were signed to boost bilateral relations.
These instruments cover areas such as Agriculture, Mining and Hydrocarbons, Health, Sports, Broadcasting, Diplomacy (Political Consultations), Intergovernmental Cooperation,Promotion of Youth, Women's Empowerment and Gender Equality, Water Resources, Numerical Economy (Information and Communication Technologies), Forest Resources and Fauna, Culture and Trade.
