Luanda - Angolan President João Lourenço sent a message to his Cuban counterpart, Miguel Díaz-Canel, congratulating the authorities and people of that Caribbean country on the celebration of the anniversary of the Cuban Revolution, which took place on January 1.
"This memorable date, which marks relevant achievements in Cuban history, continues to be considered, six decades later, as an important reference for the action of women and men for their freedom, for the positive impact it has had in raising the awareness of oppressed peoples of the value of their determination and strength when they unite to face difficult challenges and overcome the obstacles that stand in the way of their struggle to save their dignity," writes President João Lourenço.
In a message published on January 3, the Head of State took the opportunity to express to the Cuban leader the Angolan government's continued desire to strengthen the bonds of friendship, cooperation and solidarity between the two countries.
The Angolan President emphasized that he is convinced that the two countries will be able to reach important levels of development, progress and resolution of the fundamental issues of both countries, based on the constant joint efforts that have been consistently made.
The Cuban Revolution was a process that took place in 1959, led by a guerrilla movement operating from a remote region of the island called the Sierra Maestra and led by Fidel Castro and Che Guevara.
They initially led a nationalist revolutionary movement that was responsible for overthrowing the dictatorship of Fulgêncio Baptista.
Angola-Cuba Cooperation
The two countries established diplomatic relations on November 15, 1975, four days after Angola's independence, and signed the General Cooperation Agreement a year later that led to the institutionalization of a bilateral commission between Angola and Cuba.
Cuba has been a strategic partner of Angola since the country's national independence in 1975, supporting it in the war against the "apartheid" regime with South Africa.
The Caribbean country has trained many Angolan professionals and seeks to increase its economic cooperation with Angola.
Angola and Cuba maintain cooperative relations in various areas, such as security, education, health, transportation, public works, construction, oil, sports, culture, tourism and agriculture.
