Luanda - The President of the Republic, João Lourenço highlighted Thursday that the normalization of the functioning of republican institutions has allowed the strengthening of the foundations of the Democratic Rule of Law.
In a statement on the Day of Peace and National Reconciliation, which is celebrated today (4), he also states that this situation guarantees unity and ensures the defense of national sovereignty.
For the Head of State, 22 years after the end of the war that brought mourning and tore the Angolan nation apart, today we live in a very different reality.
He pointed out that the recovery of destroyed infrastructure, the relaunch of economic life and the demining of fields require a gigantic effort from the Government, with consequences that are still reflected in public accounts today.
The large investments in drinking water and electricity supply systems, he adds, are already benefiting millions of citizens.
He also mentions the construction of numerous educational establishments of different levels and research centers, as well as the construction of a considerable number of new hospital units throughout the country, many of which are reference ones.
He states that the Executive is equally committed to agriculture and agribusiness, as a way of diversifying the economy and reducing dependence on oil.
On the other hand, he explains that the difficulties still experienced cannot be compared with those experienced during the war, when thousands of people lost their lives or were forced to move from their places of origin and had to survive in difficult conditions.
In the statement, João Lourenço reiterates that for families with great needs, the Executive is creating the conditions to reduce them, creating support programs and adopting policies to improve the living conditions of the population in general.
"Today, it is now possible to circulate day and night throughout the national territory and the road and railway network has been gradually restored and increased, with emphasis on the Lobito Corridor, a route capable of creating advantageous cooperation and stimulating the emergence of numerous associated businesses", highlights the Head of State.
Air transport, he assures, has not been neglected, exemplifying with the recent inauguration of Luanda International Airport an open door to the world.
He clarified that, despite taking time, the pacification of spirits, the recovery from the trauma caused by the war and complete national reconciliation, positive results have already been achieved and social harmony is today a victory for all Angolans.
João Lourenço praises the forces of order for their efforts in combating crime hotspots in some places, so that Angolans can dedicate themselves to work and leisure without security concerns.
He considers that normal disputes in a democratic regime are resolved in the courts, in free and regular elections and in the Angolan Parliament, which includes parties with different ideologies and different political proposals, within the framework of the Constitution of the Republic.
Pacification João Lourenço also left a word about Angola's role in resolving conflicts on the African continent.
He says he is not surprised that Angola presents itself as an example in Africa and was called to use its experience in conflict resolution as a mediator in dialogue between the opposing parties, both in the Great Lakes Region and in Central Africa.
"The African Union's recognition of the Angolan Head of State as a Champion of Peace is the most obvious proof", he highlights.
For the President of the Republic, Angola stands out as a tenacious defender of the peaceful and negotiated route to all conflicts, whatever their origin, categorically condemning all regime changes through non-democratic and unconstitutional means.
He augured that peace and the spirit of reconciliation would be firmly installed in every home and in the minds and hearts of all Angolans.
