Luanda – Angolan President João Lourenço expressed on Monday "deep sorrow and shock" over the death of the commander of Angolan Navy (MGA), General Jorge Manuel dos Santos "Sukissa", which occurred Sunday in Luanda, victim of illness.
In a condolence note that reached ANGOP, the Commander-in-Chief of the Angolan Armed Forces (FAA) considered the late General Sukissa a selfless citizen and dedicated military who, since very early, showed commitment to the cause of defence of independence, sovereignty and country’s territorial integrity.
According to João Lourenço, "the general took up several leading positions with pride, dedication and unusual patriotism that earned him the respect and admiration of the the military and Angolan people".
The general, adds the note, leaves a valuable legacy that should serve as inspiration for the new generations of military personnel and citizens, in general, in terms of willingness for the selfless defence of the country and contribution for its stability and development.
"Faced with the loss of such an illustrious son of the homeland and in this hour of mourning and pain, the President of the Republic and Commander-in-Chief of the Angola Armed Forces (FAA) bows to his memory and presents to the bereaved family and the Angolan Armed Forces the most heartfelt condolences", reads the document.
Military Career
General Sukissa graduated from the Huambo Military Officers School and at the Battlefield Strategy High School at China National Defence Academy.
He attended the Higher Military Directorate and Staff course at the Military Academy of the General Staff of the Russian Federation, where he got a degree on Political Science.
In Angola, the general attended several other courses such as Leadership, Army Command, Strategy and Operative Art and Army Command, he could speak Portuguese, Spanish, French, and Russian.
The general held the positions of Commander of the Operational Command (COP) of Lunda Norte and Lunda Sul provinces, Commander of the 1st Region of the Angolan Border Guard Troops (TGFA) and delegate and commander of the National Police in the Province of Huambo.
