Luanda - The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, congratulated the national football team on Tuesday for winning the COSAFA Cup last Sunday, after beating Namibia 5-0 in the final match, which took place in Port Elizabeth, South Africa.
According to a note made public on Tuesday, the Head of State considers 'Angola's victory resounding and congratulates the group of athletes, coaches’ team and directors who made possible this achievement that makes the nation proud'.
He says that, twenty years later, last Sunday's victory demonstrates the power of persistence, desire, discipline and resilience of Angolan youth, heirs to the best fighting traditions of the people.
It was Angola's fourth victory in the Southern African regional tournament, which is in its twenty-third edition, after the achievements of 1999, with coach Djalam Cavalcanti, 2001, with Mario Calado, and 2004, under the guidance of Oliveira Gonçalves. ART/DOJ
