Luanda - President João Lourenço leaves Friday for Kampala, Uganda, to participate in the extraordinary summit of the African Union (AU) on agricultural development in Africa.
According to the secretary of the President’s Press Office, Luís Fernando, the Angolan leader will preside over the summit of the continental organization, which will take place on Saturday, in his capacity as first vice-president of the Bureau of the AU Assembly.
In February, the Angolan president will take over the leadership of the continental organization for a one-year term.
The AU was established on May 26, 2002, when its Constitutive Act came into force, replacing the Organization of African Unity (OAU), which was created in 1963.
The African Union currently brings together 55 African countries. SC /DAN/AMP
