Luanda – The Angolan Ambassador to Guinea-Bissau, Mário Augusto, defended Monday in Bissau City the need to review and restabilish all the agreements and protocols signed between the two countries up to 2012, aiming to boost the bilateral cooperation.
For the Angolan diplomat, who was received in audience by Guinean President Umaro Embaló, relations between the two countries were good until 2012, when there was a coup d'état that ousted the government of the African Party for the Independence of Guinea and Cabo Verde (PAIGC) and the new authorities that were installed demanded the departure of the Angolan military and security forces from the peace mission in Guinea-Bissau.
“The Angolan mission in Guinean-Bissau (MISSIANG) was created under the protocol signed between the two countries with the aim to help Guinea implement the Reform Programme of the Armed Forces and Security”, said the ambassador.
Mário Augusto assured that from 2012 up to now, the cooperation is suspended as the countries need to restabilish the agreements in need of revision in order to be implemented again.
He said that after this process, the two countries will be able to start applying the same agreements, which will allow for a positive and stronger evolution.
Luanda Biennale
At the same time, Mário Augusto handed over a message from the Angolan President, João Lourenço, to the Guinean President which is to officially invite him to participate in the 3rd edition of the Pan-African Forum for the Culture of Peace and Non-Violence - Biennial in Luanda on 22-24 November 2023.
The diplomat said that the event is a platform that brings together several countries from Africa and other continents with the aim of providing each country with a space for political and diplomatic dialogue.
For the 3rd Pan-African Forum for the Culture of Peace which is also known as Luanda Biennale to take place in November, it is expected that as much gains as possible it will be made taking into account the topics to be addressed focused on education, which is an important key to the development of humanity.
To take place under the motto "Education, Culture of Peace and African Citizenship as Tools for the Sustainable Development of the Continent", the three-day event (22 to 24 November) is a joint organisation of the Angolan government, the African Union (AU) and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO).
Regarding Guinea-Bissau's presidency of the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP) in 2025, Mário Augusto said that it was still too early to talk about it, given that the organisation is currently being chaired by São Tomé and Príncipe.
The Angolan diplomat considered positive that Guinea-Bissau presented its candidature, adding that it was unanimously approved at the summit of the CPLP Heads of State and Government.
