Luanda – Angolan president João Lourenço on Friday said the only way to curb price hikes in the country is to diversify its economy and increase domestic production of goods and services.
The Angolan president, who was addressing a year-end message, said the government has done everything to reduce remaining inequalities and to provide more dignified living conditions for all Angolans through the implementation of programs to boost farming and fishing production to increase the supply chain.
João Lourenço added that serious investments will continue to be made in the social area through the construction of hospitals, schools for different levels of education, as well as the training and hiring of professionals of the health, and education sectors.
"We are also increasing the supply of energy and drinking water for the population and different industries and improving and expanding the national road and rail network, in addition to public investment in the construction of housing projects, we have been promoting policies to encourage self-directed construction with a view to guaranteeing a better quality of life for Angolans," the president said.
According to the Angolan president, the State remains as the major employer, especially in the health and education sectors and that with diversification of the economy a major employer would emerge.
João Lourenço underscored that the private sector and self-employment resulting from the technical and vocational training given to young people through various existing programs are expected to play a major role in providing jobs.
The Angolan statesman added that he is counting on the commitment and work of the citizens and their active participation in the production process in all vital sectors of society to make Angola a country of opportunities for all.
João Lourenço reiterated his commitment to peace and national reconciliation, as he said, are fundamental conditions for the country's economic and social development and prosperity.
The president expressed his condolences to all those who lost loved ones in 2023 and wished for good health, peace and harmony in all homes and the hope of a new year with redoubled faith in a better future for all.
"For this new year that is beginning, our hearts go out to all the peoples of the world who are victims of hunger and misery, disease, racial prejudice, natural disasters resulting from climate change, but above all to the victims of wars and armed conflicts that are proliferating throughout the world," Lourenço said.
The Angolan president also called for definitive peace to be found in 2024 in the territories of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Mozambique, Sudan, Ukraine, Palestine and Israel. VIC/AMP
