Luanda - The Angolan Head of State, João Lourenço, swore in on Friday the politician Abel Chivukuvuku as a member of the Council of the Republic.
On the occasion, João Lourenço said that he had invited Abel Chivukuvuku because of a vacancy in the Council of the Republic following the death in September of Ismael Mateus, a councillor, journalist and writer, who was victim of a road accident in the capital.
“I decided to fill this vacancy with someone who, with his knowledge and experience in political life, could strengthen the range of advisors that the President has, and in this way help him to overcome the great challenges that our country faces,” said the Angolan statesman.
During the ceremony, João Lourenço informed the members of the Council of the Republic who were present that another meeting of the body is planned for the near future, where the program for the 50th anniversary of National Independence, which will be celebrated on November 11, 2025, will be discussed.
The Council of the Republic is an advisory body to the Head of State, which includes the Vice-President of the Republic, the National Assembly Speaker, Attorney General, leaders of political parties with parliamentary seats, the Vice-President of the ruling MPLA and civil society organizations.
