Luanda – Angolan president João Lourenço received the US ambassador to Angola, Tulinabo Mushingi, Thursday in Luanda, with whom he discussed aspects of cooperation between the two countries.
Speaking at the end of the audience, the American diplomat said the meeting was part of the periodic exchanges with the government and aimed to discuss areas of relationship between the United States of America and Angola.
According to the diplomat, the relationship between the two nations is growing on a daily basis, which is why he discussed with the president the growth of bilateral relationship, focusing on the pillars of engagement and prosperity, which are expected to continue to increase.
The diplomat highlighted the embassy's efforts in commercial diplomacy, with a view to attracting private investment by bringing private companies to Angola that can invest in different sectors.
Tulinabo Mushingi announced that a delegation from the US Senate made up of eight senators, would be coming to Angola on March 28.
He gave an example of the Lobito Corridor, whose first phase involves Lobito and Luau cities, which has received 250 million dollars financing by the Development Finance Corporation.
The diplomat explained that the Lobito Corridor not only involves the railway, but also the development of the area, with the intention of involving the agricultural sector.
As well as the Lobito Corridor, the ambassador said the US government is also committed to the rehabilitation and construction of 186 metal bridges in the area, in an investment by Exim Bank, which is already working with the Renewable Energy Company Sun Africa.
The diplomat recalled the visit to Angola last week of a delegation from the US Ministry of Agriculture made up of around 20 businesspeople, which culminated in the signing of contracts worth 18 million US dollars.
In the defense sector, Mushingi said a meeting of the Defense Commission is due to be held in Washington in the next three months, and that they have invited the Angolan Defense minister to the meeting to discuss the acquisition of items for the modernization of the Angolan Armed Forces (FAA).
The situation in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo also dominated the meeting, having expressed the United States’ willingness to continue to support Angola's efforts and the Luanda process for the pacification of that country.
The diplomat said he considers very important the leadership of President João Lourenço and that the US wanted him to continue working on the process of pacification in the region.
The celebration of 30 years of diplomatic relations between Angola and the United States of America was also analyzed during the audience, as well as the prospects for the next 30 years and beyond, with the hope that the future will be ever brighter.PA/MCN/ADR/AMP
