Luanda - Angolan President João Lourenço, Tuesday in Luanda, pointed out the proximity between Angola and Equatorial Guinea as the main advantage to increase and strengthen the partnership between the two countries.

Speaking at a press conference after a private meeting with his Equatoguinean counterpart, Teodoro Obiang Nguema, João Lourenço explained that the distance between the two states is about two hours by plane and that both are part of the Gulf of Guinea and bathed by the same ocean, the Atlantic.

Regarding the prospects for cooperation between Angola and Guinea Conakry, Lourenço said that there is a lot of potential and that they could be "very successful if the two countries make an effort to materialize what is declared in the various agreements and other types of legislation signed so far.

According to the Angolan President, the future is bright and the prospects are good, depending on the will of the people, of the leaders, but also of the populations of both countries.

Asked about the possibility of direct flights between Luanda and Malabo and vice versa, João Lourenço assured that the "green light is on" and that it is up to the ministers of both countries involved in the aviation sector to develop all the possibilities for cooperation in the aeronautical field.

João Lourenço recalled that Africa has a great deficit of connections between its countries, stressing that not only the maritime, river, rail and road sectors are at risk, which is why these types of agreements are always welcome.

The Angolan president highlighted the fact that the African continent has few airlines and that they alone have not been able to connect the countries of Africa.

African Union

Regarding his strategy as future president of the African Union, the Angolan leader reiterated that dialogue with everyone and respect for what the continental organization has established will be at the forefront of his mandate.

"We are going to try to resolve the serious problems facing the African continent, starting with political instability, wars, terrorism and unconstitutional seizures of power, because all of this works against the economic and social development of African populations," Lourenço said.

For the Angolan statesman, without peace and stability, there can be no economic development and, consequently, no solution to the social problems of the continent's suffering populations.

Cooperation

Angola and Equatorial Guinea are two of Africa's largest oil producers. They are also part of the Gulf of Guinea region and have had strong political, diplomatic and cultural relations for several years.

Cooperation between the two countries focuses on economic, energy and security issues, among others.

Both are members of the Community of Portuguese-Language Countries (CPLP).

The Angolan and Equatoguinean authorities have been working to diversify cooperation, adopting means that help identify common interests with mutual benefits. VIC
