Luanda - The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, announced on Wednesday that he will sign, within days, a decree that pardons a number of convicted citizens serving sentences in prisons.
In the message addressed to Angolans, on the occasion of the festive season, he said that the act will take place again throughout the year, on dates to be determined, on the occasion of the 50th Anniversary of National Independence, which is marked on November 11, 2025.
The pardon is a prerogative of the President of the Republic to end the sentence of specific groups of prisoners
However, those convicted of certain types of serious crimes, such as those that undermined the democratic rule of law, are excluded. ART/DOJ
