Luanda - The health situation in Africa, with particular emphasis on the Mpox virus (monkey pox), was under analysis, in the audience that the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, granted Friday morning, to the director general of the Center for Control and African Union (AU) Disease Prevention, Jean Kaseya.
Mpox (formerly called monkeypox) is an infectious disease that affects humans and other animals.
The initial symptoms are fever, headaches and muscle pain, enlarged lymph nodes and fatigue.
After the meeting at the Presidential Complex at 4 de Fevereiro International Airport, in statements to the press, Jean Kaseya explained that the issue of Mpox is worrying in several African countries and if there is no caution it could become a pandemic, worse than that of Covid-19.
“For this reason, there is an urgent need to take concrete actions from now on”, the African Union health expert said.
He thanked the Angolan Statesman for expressing his willingness to encourage unspecified actions to mitigate the spread of the disease.
Jean Kaseya, who was on a working visit to Angola for a few days, expressed his satisfaction with the advances made in the country in the health sector.
He also received information from the Angolan Minister of Health, Sílvia Lutucuta, about the country's health status.
The official was satisfied with the fact that the Angolan authorities prevented the spread of cholera and Ebola and that there were no records of any case of Mpox.
The Mpox virus is of the ortho-poxvirus genus. The disease can be transmitted during the handling of wild animal meat, by an animal bite, by bodily fluids, contaminated objects or by close contact with an infected person. AFL/VIC/CF/DOJ
