Luanda - The project to build and develop more infrastructures in Africa was the focus of discussions on Wednesday, in Luanda, during an audience that the Angolan Head of State, João Lourenço, in his capacity as pro tempore head of the African Union (AU), granted to Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, who is the new Chairman of the African Union Commission (AUC).
Speaking to the press at the end of the meeting, Mahmoud Ali Youssouf revealed that the focus on the issue related to infrastructure is progressing across the African continent, which is one of the Angolan statesman's ambitions.
He is on a working visit to Angola to learn about the main work program of the Angolan presidency of the pan-African organization.
For this reason, the official said he had discussed with President João Lourenço issues related to the Conference on Infrastructure Development in Africa, to be held in Luanda, with a view to mobilizing resources for the construction of projects.
He said the conversation also covered preparations for the US/Africa Business Forum that is scheduled to take place in Luanda in June this year.
According to him, these are all issues that he analyzed with the President João Lourenço and his team, so that the African Union can be involved in the preparations for these two major meetings that can help mobilize resources on the continent.
Mahmoud Ali Youssouf emphasized that the AUC will play a coordinating role to ensure that both events are successful and achieve the desired results.
The Djibouti diplomat serving the AU also said that he and João Lourenço discussed issues related to peace and security in Africa, with particular emphasis on the situation in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), as well as Somalia and Sudan.
In February this year, João Lourenço took over as head of the African Union, which was initially called the Organization of African Unity (OAU).
This organization was created in 1963, with the aim of promoting peace, cooperation and unity among African countries, in addition to working for the social, economic and political development of the continent.
