Luanda – Angolan president João Lourenço received Monday in Luanda, the letters of credence of seven new resident ambassadors and six non-resident ambassadors to this Southern African nation.
These are the resident Ambassadors Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Belgium, Stephane Doppagne, France, Sophie Aubert, European Union (EU), Rosário Bento, Nicaragua, Roberto Morales Fuentes, Cuba, Oscar Leon Gonzales, Rwanda, Charles Rudakubana, and of the Arab Republic of Egypt, Naveen El Husseuny.
As non-residents, the Statesman received letters of credence from the ambassadors of Mauritius, Jean François Chaumiere, Canada, Sara Nicholls, Denmark, Elseberth Sondegaard Krone, Jamaica, Joan Thomás Medwars, Ethiopia, Fortuna Dibaco Cizare, and Georgia, Roland Beridze.
The 56-year-old French ambassador, who has worked in Latin America and the Middle East, said her priority will be to prepare the conference of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) scheduled for December in France, to be co-chaired by the France president, Emmanuel Macron, and the Angolan president João Lourenço.
The French diplomat said that actions aimed at consolidating economic relations and existing bilateral projects will continue.
The new EU Permanent Representative, Rosário Bento, a 53-year-old Portuguese national, defended the continued strengthening of cooperation for the diversification of the Angolan economy, governance and human development.
Rosário Bento spoke of the need to strengthen co-operation in terms of regional security, stability, and protection of biodiversity in view of climate change, having praised the role of the Angolan president in promoting peace in the region and the African continent.
Nicaragua's ambassador, Roberto Morales Fuentes, said this is the first diplomatic mission of his country in Angola, and that he looks forward to sharing knowledge, with the aim to strengthen cooperative relations in favour of their respective peoples and countries.
Oscar Leon Gonzales, a Cuban diplomat since 1996 who has worked in international organisations, said he will seek to consolidate the historic friendly ties between the two peoples, which have been built through struggle and work.
The Rwandan ambassador, Charles Rudakubana, expressed interest in strengthening economic co-operation between the two countries and for peace in the central African region.
