Luanda - The Angolan Head of State, João Lourenço, on Tuesday in Luanda addressed, by phone, the situation in the East of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) with his counterpart from Equatorial Guinea, Teodoro Obiang Nguema.

According to the Presidency of the Republic's account on the social network Facebook, the two statesmen assessed the tense situation in the region, where M23 troops intensified their attacks.

On the other hand, João Lourenço also spoke on the phone with the acting chairman of the African Union (AU), the Head of State of Mauritania, Mohamed Ould Ghazouani.

The conversation focused on an assessment related to peace and security in Africa, with a very particular focus on the most critical cases such as the situation in eastern DRC.

It should be noted that the Angolan Head of State will take over the rotating presidency of the African Union as from February this year.

João Lourenço is the mediator appointed by the African Union (AU) for the conflict in the eastern region of the DR Congo.
