Luanda – Angolan head of State João Lourenço discussed the peace, security and developments in Sudan and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) on Monday in Luanda.
This was during an audience the Angolan Statesman granted to the Speaker of the Forum of Parliaments of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (FP-ICGLR), Jemma Nunu Kumba.
Sudan and DRC currently experience armed conflicts due to political disagreements, causing high death toll and unknown number of refugees fleeing to neighbouring countries.
Jemma Nunu Kumba revealed to the press at the end of the audience that she analysed with the Angolan President issues related to peace, security and development in the Great Lakes Region.
In his capacity as acting president of the ICGLR, the Angolan Statesman, has been informed of developments in the region.
Jemma Kumba, a South Sudan MP, said the President João Lourenço expressed “great concern” about the situation of the conflict in Sudan, which has serious consequences.
She said that João Lourenço expressed his availability to support South Sudan in strengthening the mediation of the conflict in the neighbouring country of Sudan.
Jemma Nunu Kumba also said that João Lourenço pledged to appeal to all MPs and Head of States of the region to join efforts on calling for peace between the parties, putting an end to the political stability that erupted in Sudan.
The Angolan Parliament Speaker, Carolina Cerqueira and the Parliament Speakers from Kenyan, Zambia and South Sudan also attended the audience.
The Forum of ICGLR Parliaments is an Inter-parliamentary body that brings together national parliaments from its member States.
They are Angola, Burundi, Central African Republic (CAR), Republic Of Congo, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, Republic of Sudan, Uganda, Tanzania, and Zambia.
The Parliament Forum was established on December 4th, 2008, in Kigali, Rwanda, following the signing of the Inter-parliamentary Agreement.
