Luanda - Angolan head of State João Lourenço met Wednesday in Luanda with Portuguese Finance minister Fernando Medina to discuss the economic and financial relationship between the two countries, as part of the strengthening of existing cooperation.
The Portuguese minister of Finance, who has been in Angola since Sunday, was received in an audience this morning by President João Lourenço at the Presidential Palace.
"I was privileged to have an audience with the President of the Republic. It was a very important, frank and productive meeting, where we had the opportunity to assesses the situation on several issues of the economic and financial relationship," said the minister.
Medina said that investment opportunities in the country had also been discussed, with the Angolan head of State strictly defining the importance of diversification of Angola's economic production base, boosting fundamental infrastructure and in relation to human capital.
According to the minister, the objective is to see how Portugal can contribute, via its companies and its financial instruments, so that the projects are placed at the service of the population more quickly.
"The implementation of investment, in the fact, means to have the capacity to quickly improve the people’s living conditions, making the economy more competitive and more modern, with better infrastructure at their service," said the minister.
Medina also said that he had conveyed to President Lourenço the Portugal's decision to extend the credit line from 1.5 billion euros to 2 billion euros, in order to support more investment projects in Angola.
He explained that the credit line which is permanent aimed at funding projects defined by the Angolan State, with an estimated repayment of ten years, which can be extended to 15 years, based on international standards and consensus between the parties.
