Luanda – President João Lourenço and the Chinese ambassador to Angola, Gong Tao, Monday in Luanda discussed the strengthening of cooperation in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.
Speaking to journalists at the end of the audience, Gong Tao said the meeting also reviewed political, economic, trade and investment matters.
Angola received on Thursday last week a batch of 200,000 doses of Sinopharm vaccine from the Chinese Biological Institute, granted by the government of China.
The diplomat praised Angola’s openness towards the Chinese vaccine, both under existing bilateral accords and the World Health Organisation’s Covax Initiative, mainly intended to ensure an equitable access of developing countries to the jabs against the pandemic.
He recalled that his country has so far contributed more than six million doses of the Covid-19 vaccine for the Covax Initiative.
Gong Tao also praised the good results reached by the Angolan government in the economic and social spheres, including the improvement of the business environment to attract foreign investment.
The diplomat expressed the wish to have cooperation reinforced in the fields of industry, trade, infrastructure, agriculture, computer sciences, agro-pharming and training.
