Dundo - The National Police in the province of Lunda Norte thwarted the departure of 2,625 liters of smuggled fuel, which was destined for the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), as part of an ongoing micro-operation in the district.
The information was provided Monday by the technician of the Institutional Communication and Press department of the Provincial Police Command, Alexandre Pereira, stressing that smuggling was thwarted at the border posts of Cambulo, Chitato and Caungula.
He added that during the operation, 5,900 US dollars and 39,000 kwanzas were seized in the possession of illegal diamond sellers and buyers, as well as various instruments used for the illegal exploitation of the strategic mineral.
He said that the fuel, as well as the values and diamond mining instruments seized, were delivered to the General Tax Administration (AGT) and the Listing Commission of the 'Transparent Operation', as faithful depositaries.
On the other hand, he made it known that the operation allowed the arrest of 623 citizens of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), for attempting to illegally enter the national territory, whose objective was to settle in the diamond exploration areas and reach the country's capital, Luanda.
After administrative procedures, he continued, the illegal immigrants were repatriated to their country of origin.
The micro-operation underway in Lunda-Norte aims to combat fuel smuggling, illegal immigration, drug trafficking, human trafficking and illegal diamond mining. JVL/HD/DOJ
