Angolans voted on 24th August, for the fifth time, to elect the political party that will rule for the next five years.
The general commander of National Police commissioner-general Arnaldo Carlos told the press that the operation(patrolling) aimed to prevent the people from harassing those who do not share the same political party.
He said that similar incidents had also occurred in the provinces of Benguela, Uige, Zaire, Cabinda and Huambo, where citizens were being threatened and assaulted.
Arnaldo Carlos, appealed to the population to remain calm, stating that the national police are ready to prevent any act capable of triggering vandalism.
He assured the police have already identified some individuals involved in the acts of vandalism, who will be held criminally responsible.
Chief inspector Bartolomeu Correria, who coordinated the patrolling conducted in the south of Luanda, described the public security situation as being calm.
Unhappy with the release of the provisional results from the elections of 24 August, which gave an advantage to the MPLA, some disgruntled citizens started perpetrating violence.
