Luanda - Crime in Angola fell by 2.7 percent this year with the National Police recording 62,805 crimes of various kinds from January to November, the Interior Minister Eugênio Laborinho said Thursday in Luanda.
Speaking at the end-of-year ceremony, the minister said 64 percent of the crimes were cleared up with the arrest of 43,963 alleged perpetrators.
The minister added that of all violent crimes, 71 percent were committed by people close to the victims, which calls for greater attention and collaboration from families and society in general.
There has been "considerable concern about the exponential increase in computer crimes, fundamentally those that threaten people's honor and good name, scams, grooming of minors and others, the minister said.
"Despite the financial constraints, it was possible to guarantee public safety and order throughout the country acquire equipment and carry out some structural projects to improve the working and social conditions of officials, thanks to the effort, spirit of unity, commitment, selflessness and readiness of the staff of the Ministry of the Interior," the minister said.
Eugénio Laborinho spoke of the need to continue adopting measures to improve border control, the management of migratory acts and customer service, making it faster.
The minister stressed that efforts are being made to improve the living conditions of prisoners, with the inauguration of new prisons in some provinces in respect to the dignity of the human person and that the Civil Protection and Fire Services will pay special attention to rainfall, atmospheric discharges, floods, landslides, overflowing rivers and hydrographic basins and the road accidents.
