Ondjiva – A sum of 664 groups, made up of 7,885 people involved in committing many crimes, were dismantled during the 1st half of this year across the country.
The data appears in the final communiqué of the meeting of the Local Governance Council held Saturday, in the province of Cunene, under the guidance of the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, who, among other topics, analyzed the country's public security situation for the 1st semester of this year.
The document indicates that the situation is characterized by the record of crimes of a multiple nature, with crimes committed using firearms continuing to be a concern, due to their negative impact on society, despite their reduction, compared to the same period in 2023.
It details that the groups were dismantled as a result of 3,304 targeted micro-search operations.
It states that the actions carried out resulted in the seizure of 1,400 firearms, 2,602,331 liters of fuel, 17 kilograms and 219 grams of cocaine; 11 tons, 617 kilograms and 782 milligrams of marijuana, 258 grams and 561 milligrams of crack, 508 supposed diamond stones and 260 heads of cattle.
It highlights that, despite the data presented, in the last week of July, as a result of the micro-operations carried out, the criminal police bodies seized a total of 21,685 supposed diamond stones, in the province of Lunda-Norte.
Following the approach to the country's public security situation, it highlights that in the migratory field, in light of the new legal regime of exemption and simplification of procedures for granting tourist visas, a significant flow was registered in the aforementioned period such as 140,709 tourists of different nationalities, of which 77,546 were arriving and 73,163 were leaving.
As for Civil Protection and Firefighters, during the 1st Semester of 2024, several occurrences were registered, most notably the rains, which caused 181 human victims, of which 75 were killed and 106 injured, with the highest incidence in the provinces of Benguela, Cuanza-Sul, Huambo and Malanje, which together had 151 victims.
In terms to material damage, 17,061 homes were affected, of which 2,544 were destroyed, 2,478 were damaged and 12,039 were flooded, fundamentally affecting the provinces of Luanda, Bengo, Cuanza Norte, Cuanza-Sul, Lunda-Sul , Cuando-Cubango, Benguela, Malanje and Bié.
Overall, the Local Governance Council concluded that in the 1st six months of the year, the public security situation in the country was stable.
At the meeting, the body took note of the State Reform Action Plan, which essentially aims to materialize the guidelines defined in the National Development Plan (2023-2027), implement the general guidelines on the most varied areas arising from the Roadmap for State Reform approved by Presidential Decree.
The plan also aims to define tangible actions and tasks for the materialization of existing programmatic instruments, and direct the action of the sectors responsible for implementing the State Reform, ensuring the necessary coordination mechanisms.
Finally, the Local Governance Council was informed about the Family Farming Acceleration and Food Security Reinforcement Program, approved in June of the current year, which focuses on individual eco-operative producers. LHE/FA/ART/CF/DOJ
