Luanda – The National Police (PN), celebrate this Wednesday their 48th anniversary with commitment to the preservation of peace, defence of democratic legality, order, public security and tranquility, as well as the modernization of means and staff training.
Preventing, fighting and investigating crime, preparatory investigation of cases, defending democratic legality, as well as public and private property, depends on the good performance of the National Police in co-operation with other defence and security bodies.
In this regard, the Angolan government is committed to the training and modernization processes in the most different fields of this body that is part of the Ministry of the Interior in order to respond to current and future challenges.
The National Police have faced various vicissitudes, overcoming major challenges in recent years and have been making efforts to modernise and continue training staff, despite the country's financial difficulties.
In the face of the changes being observed in the Angolan society, the population growth and of the construction areas nationwide, several challenges face the National Police, among them, the improvement of working conditions, reduction of corruption, raising technical and scientific standards and setting up forensic laboratories.
Most of the challenges and responsibilities sometimes imposed on the NP are for society and should be everyone's task, collectively or individually
All members of society need to contribute so that the work of the National Police has an impact and is useful in the lives of families, individuals and public and private institutions.
To mark the anniversary, various socio-cultural, sporting and recreational activities are to take place.
The main ceremony of the PNA's 48th anniversary festivities will take place at the "Osvaldo Serra Van-Dúnem" Higher Institute of Police and Criminal Sciences, under the chairmanship of the corporation's general commander, Commissioner General Arnaldo Manuel Carlos.
Before the main event, during morning time a wreath will be laid at the Monument to the Unknown Soldier and, at the same time, at the Zango 2 Municipal Hospital, neonatal kits will be given to the baby couple born at midnight on 28 February.
A gala dinner is also planned to honour retiring officers.
