Luanda – The Attorney General's Office (PGR) of Angola was awarded Thursday in Port Louis, Mauritius, with the International Prize for Asset Recovery and the Fight against Corruption in the field of Economic and Financial Crime.
According to a note from the PGR to which ANGOP has had access, the award was given at the General Assembly of the Members of the Southern African Inter-Agency Asset Recovery Network (ARINSA), which took place from 11 to 13 October this year.
The note emphasizes that winning this prize expresses international recognition towards the PGR´s efforts and other institutions of the State, in particular the Angolan people in the fight of acts which point to the practice of economic and financial offences damaging public property.
Since the start of his first term in office in 2017, the Angolan Head of State, João Lourenço, set as top priority the fight against corruption, nepotism, sycophancy and impunity.
For the Angolan President, these evils must be fought against, since they affect investor confidence, jeopardise the country's image and productivity, and to this end various actions have been taken to achieve this goal.
Thus, from 2019 up tho this date, the National Asset Recovery Service (SENRA) from the PGR has made recoveries in cash, shareholdings, real estate and other properties valued at USD 7 billion and at the same period, the institution also seized money, shareholdings, real estate and other properties valued at USD 12 billion, which are waiting for a court decision.
