Luanda - More than USD 2 billion dollars is the amount of assets recovered in Angola and abroad, by 2023, by the National Asset Recovery Service (SENRA) of the Attorney General's Office (PGR).
The information was provided this Thursday, in Luanda, by the Attorney General of the Republic, Hélder Pitta Groz, who said it was the result of the strategy to combat corruption, embezzlement and money laundering, in progress since 2017.
According to the magistrate, who was speaking at the end-of-year celebration ceremony, during the aforementioned year 530 criminal cases and 653 investigation cases were worked on.
On the other hand, according to the top prosecutor, this year 17 new Public Prosecution Office magistrates joined the staff, distributed across several provinces.
This number, according to the Attorney General of the Republic, rises to a total of 634 magistrates.
As for Justice technicians, he said that through a public entrance exam, 342 new staff from different categories were admitted which, added to the existing ones, totaled 2 092 employees.
The Attorney General of the Republic also stated that an access tender was held that allowed 332 employees to be promoted.
He called on the PGR bodies at national level to take rigorous and dynamic action to defend and protect collective and diffuse interests throughout the country, so that there is no perception that these issues are only dealt with in Luanda.
He clarified that the Draft Organic Law of the Attorney General's Office and the Public Prosecution Office, the statutes of the Legal Regime of Justice Technicians, the Remuneration of Magistrates, Justice Technicians and the Commission for the analysis of the relevance of drafting or not a Code of Conduct and Ethics for the institution's Magistrates are being addressed.
Pitta Groz stressed that in 2024 the institution will continue to work on these documents, as the legal tools that govern the institution are in need of adjustment with the demands of the country's political, economic and social reality, hence the urgency of updating them.
The approval of these diplomas, he said, will allow actions to be carried out to improve the quality of life of judges, technicians and employees.
“We believe that at the end of this work we will mark significant steps towards institutional development and the realization of our professional aspirations”, he highlighted.
He added that over the next year efforts will be focused on keeping the institution functional, carrying out actions and steps with State institutions to guarantee material conditions and financial resources to increase the number of employees, with the entry of new prosecutors and Justice Technicians.
