Ondjiva – A total of 23,049 National and Foreign citizens were questioned during the first semester by the Border Police (PGF) forces, in the southern Province of Cunene, representingt 3,558 less than the same period previous year, when they tried to cross illegally the border perimeter between Angola and Namibia.
The information was provided to ANGOP this Thursday by the acting provincial director of Institutional Communication and Press of the National Police in Cunene, inspector Samuel Casaco, stating that of the alleged transgressors, 23,035 are Angolans, 12 Namibians and 2 Pakistanis.
He explained that, after operational interrogations, the the Angolans were released, while the foreigners were sent to the Migration and Foreigners Service.
He clarified that the interpellation of violators is the result of 2,874 frustrated border violations.
He added that the violations were classified as 16 with vehicles, 13 with motorbikes and 2,845 on foot, of which 13 were with cattle, 28 for smuggling petroleum products and 2 for drug trafficking.
As part of the fight against tax evasion, 18 vehicles, 11,945 liters of fuel were seized, among other materials and vehicle accessories, civil construction, household utensils, footwear and clothing, drinks, food and cosmetics.
The records of the seized goods were prepared and sent to the General Tax Administration for legal procedures.
The province of Cunene shares 460 kilometers of border with the Republic of Namibia, 340 of which are land and 120 are river.
