Maputo - The Standing Committee of Senior Officials of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) is preparing, starting this Monday, in Mozambique, an extraordinary summit of the organization, to be held on Wednesday (23).
In this preparatory meeting for the Extraordinary Summit of Heads of State and Government of the organization, the Angolan delegation is headed by the national secretary of SADC, Nazaré Salvador.
Among the 20 proposals under discussion are the degree of implementation of the decisions of the Council of Ministers of the organization, a report on the situation of the Covid-19 pandemic in the region and the implementation plan of the Revised Regional Indicative Strategic Development 2020-2030.
It also included the materialization of the SADC Emergency and Humanitarian Operations Centre, the functioning of the Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency, food security during the 2020-2021 agricultural campaign.
The regional body's expert session also discussed progress in the fight against HIV/AIDS, the mechanism for dialogue between SADC and the private sector and the financial issue of the creation of the SADC Information and Communication Technology Committee.
Also under discussion at the meeting, chaired by the chairman of the SADC Committee of Senior Officials, the Mozambican Carlos Manuel da Costa, was the situation of women in political and decision-making positions and the progress towards gender parity in the organisation's secretariat, as well as the agency's programme on culture.
For Tuesday, another preparatory meeting is scheduled, at ministerial level, where Angola will be represented by the Secretary of State for the Interior, José Bamoquina Zau, who is already in the Mozambican capital.
The Southern African Development Community is an integration and cooperation organization of the 16 member countries, which was created on August 17, 1992.
It aims at promoting sustainable economic growth and development, reducing poverty, increasing the population's quality of life, peace and security, strengthening and consolidating the region's cultural, historical and social affinities, among others.
SADC members countries are Angola, South Africa, Botswana, Democratic Republic of Congo, Comoros, Eswatini, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Seychelles.
