Talatona - The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Teté António, said Friday that peace is a primary condition for the implementation and development of any government action.
The minister, who was speaking at the opening of the 57th ministerial meeting of the United Nations Standing Consultative Committee taking place in Luanda, said that in the context of peace prevention, mediation is the instrument that should be favored for the peaceful resolution of conflicts.
Teté António said Angola is committed to finding peaceful solutions for the region, in particular to improving relations between the Republic of Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), as part of the Luanda process.
For mediation to be effective, said the minister, complementarity is an asset for achieving results capable of attaining the objectives of peace, and in this spirit Angola defends coordination between the actors and institutions involved.
The minister explained that cooperation between the United Nations and regional organizations, as well as partnerships with other regional institutions, such as the European Union (EU) and individual or collective actors, strengthen mediation, prevention and conflict resolution.
Téte António also highlighted the use of mechanisms that establish panels of wise men from the African Union, regional and sub-regional organizations, as well as mechanisms that take into account the women's dimension to continue to deserve special attention.
As regard to the situation of conflict and tension that the Central African region is still facing, the minister underscored the need for all states to commit themselves to resolving it, since there is interdependence between states, in addition to the ties of consanguinity and fraternity that unite the peoples of the region.
Addressing the security situation in certain member states of the Community, the former president of Rwanda, Charles Rudakubana, said that it would always be a cause for concern.
He explained that Central Africa is marked by the presence of conflicts that weaken its states and imply close collaboration with the spaces in the region.
For this reason, he said there is a need to resolve the conflicts in Central Africa and to support all good initiatives to improve the security situation in the region.
Charles Rudakubana recalled that the security threat in the region, maritime piracy in the Gulf of Guinea, the migration crisis, climate change, terrorism, violent extremism and the proliferation of armed groups call for concerted reflection in order to find appropriate solutions and avoid instability in the region.
According to Charles Rudakubana , the resolution of the conflict in the east of DRC is of concern to everyone and requires the presentation of a political solution, and the United Nations supports peace initiatives that benefit other countries in the region.
