Luanda - One hundred 77,000 young people, aged 14 to 18, have already benefited from the Girl Empowerment and Learning for All Project (PATII), the Vice President of the Republic of Angola, Esperança da Costa said on Saturday.
The Vice-President presented the data in an exclusive interview with ANGOP, to address the work of the multisectoral commissions and national councils coordinated by her office, as an assistant to the holder of the Executive Power, almost two years after the beginning of the mandate.
She said that empowering girls and promoting the training of young people, in order to provide them with a high level of knowledge and skills for greater and better insertion in the labor market, is one of the focuses of the Executive, and PAT II responds to this challenge.
In general, she explained that the project aims to benefit 900,000 young people through the allocation of scholarships and cash transfers, to meet the various needs of young girls, especially those related to sexual education and reproductive health.
She said that the objective is to end the school dropout of young girls motivated by early pregnancy.
Esperança da Costa said that the project, which started in 2022, is now following its normal course after some constraints at the start were eliminated, particularly the most recent success seen in the province of Bengo, where 9,000 of the 11,000 selected have already started to benefit from the program.
During the interview, the Vice-President of the Republic also spoke of the work carried out by the National Council for Aviation and Traffic Planning, having said that, despite the reduction in cases, the situation still remains worrying, as the results are still disastrous, with many human victims involved.
Therefore, she announced for mid-August the holding of an international forum on the subject, with the participation of several countries, in order to promote greater interaction with society to seek the best solutions and gather the experience of other countries on the best practices to combat this evil.
The problem of water supply and the management of river basins, the implementation of strategies to promote biodiversity and combat climate change were also reasons for this conversation with Esperança da Costa.
Other issues that permeate the duties of the Vice-President of the Republic are the training of staff, the fight against HIV/AIDS, and the safeguarding of cultural heritage, issues whose results were also touched on in this interview that ANGOP expects to publish in full in the coming days.
