Luanda - An Angolan parliamentary delegation, led by the head of the 10th Specialized Working Committee, Vigílio Tyova, has been participating since Sept 10th, in Pretoria, South Africa, in the 23rd Regional Seminar on the Implementation of International Humanitarian Law (IHL) in Southern Africa and the Indian Ocean Island States.
The three-day event is organized by the South Africa Department of International Relations & Cooperation (DIRCO), in partnership with the International Committee of the Red Cross, as part of the celebrations of the 75th anniversary of the adoption of the Convention on Geneva 1949.
The meeting will analyze the situation of implementation of international humanitarian law in the region's countries.
Angolan legislator role
During the opening of the seminar, which takes place under the motto, "Strengthening Humanity", Vigílio Tyova, highlighted the role of the Angolan legislator in the implementation of international humanitarian law.
The seminar provides States in the region with an annual opportunity to share experiences, achievements and challenges regarding International Humanitarian Law, as well as sharing tangible results and recommendations.
The Angolan parliamentary delegation also includes deputy João Kanda Bernardo, 1st secretary of the Commission on Human Rights, Citizenship and Environment (10th Commission).
