Luanda – The Proposed Law on the Political-Administrative Division, initiated by the Angolan Executive, was approved Tuesday, in specialty, after lively debates.
The bill, which proposes the creation of three new provinces in the country (Icolo e Bengo, Moxico Leste and Cuango), goes to final voting next week.
Speaking to the press, the Minister of State and Chief of Staff of the Presidency of the Republic, Adão de Almeida, said that the debate was delayed due to the complexity of the subject, ensuring that the main objective that guided the proposal remains in its essential aspects.
On the occasion, he said that they propose the officialization of another province in the current territory of the country's capital, with a different organization that will allow the creation of another political-administrative center, away from the existing one, which in itself is an essential element of attraction of another development pole.
With the current set, Adão de Almeida highlighted that there is only one center of attraction for development, which is the center of Luanda, highlighting that with the new vision the conditions are created for the capital to no longer have approximately 10 million inhabitants.
He highlighted that the political-administrative division will not solve all of the capital's main problems, but will allow for a different approach, which he considered essential for resolving citizens' concerns.
The bill aims to establish a new political-administrative division of the country, to adapt it to the demands of demographic growth, infrastructure, the expansion of population clusters and territorial geographical limits lines.
It also responds to the need to reduce regional asymmetries, promote the harmonious development of the national territory and the quality of organization and provision of basic essential services to populations. LDN/ART/CF/DOJ
