Luanda - The National Assembly (parliament) Speaker, Carolina Cerqueira, said this Tuesday that the SADC model laws relating to the preparation and holding of elections, supervision and participatory governance, have served as a reference for the Angolan legislative process.
The head of the Angolan parliament made these statements during the hearing she held with the chairs of SADC region's administrative courts, having also highlighted the laws on the protection of rights, freedoms and guarantees.
She mentioned that several diplomas relating to State Administration have already been approved by parliament, such as the General Labor Law, the Basic Law of the Public Service, the Codes of Administrative Procedure and Litigation.
Carolina Cerqueira highlighted that the Proposed Law on Administrative Division and the Proposed Basic Law on Vocational Training are at the discussion table.
She made visitors aware of the composition of the bodies of the National Assembly, which is unicameral, multi-party with the representation of 5 political parties and with a strong generational and gender representation.
The head of the Angola house of law also highlighted that the Economy and Finance, Defense and Security Committees are chaired by women, breaking the stigma that there are issues that are the responsibility of men.
Regarding cooperation with other sovereign bodies, she noted that, in particular, there is institutional solidarity, essentially, in the discussion of the general State budget in which deputies focus on the analysis and discussion of the proposals for budget allocations applied to this sovereign body.
On the other hand, the National Assembly forwards citizens' requests and complaints regarding the matter to the justice bodies for due treatment through the 10th Commission.
Finally, she considered that the future SADC Parliament, whose constitution process was approved at the 55th SADC-PF Assembly, held recently in Luanda, will function as a consultative body for the region's parliaments and will constitute an important platform for strengthening the democratic rule of law, the preservation of the values of peace and citizenship and the sustainable development of member countries.
