Luanda - The Speaker of the National Assembly (AN), Carolina Cerqueira, received the Algerian ambassador to Angola, Abdelhakim Mihoubi, in audience this Friday, with whom she discussed issues related to strengthening parliamentary cooperation between the two countries.
Speaking to journalists after the meeting, the Algerian diplomat said that they had analysed, in particular, the creation of an inter-parliamentary friendship committee, as well as issues relating to a visit to Algeria by the leader of the Angolan House of Laws, which is expected at the beginning of next year.
In general, Abdelhakim Mihoubi considered relations between the two states to be very good and historic, which he said had existed before Angola achieved its National Independence, and expressed his desire to see them strengthened.
According to the ambassador, the occasion was also used to talk about issues related to the humanitarian situation in the Palestinian region of Gaza, especially the role that parliaments can play to "help" those populations and the need to support them with goods such as food, water and fuel.
"In this regard, I very much appreciate Angola's position on the situation in Gaza, particularly the position expressed by the President of the Republic, João Lourenço," the diplomat said.
