Luanda – Angola and Japan signed on Thursday an Agreement for Exchange of Notes for the Implementation of the Economic and Social Development Programme in Demining Field, worth USD 2 million.

Signed the agreement Angola’s Secretary of State for International Cooperation and Angolan Communities Domingos Vieira Lopes, and Japanese ambassador to Angola Maruhashi Jiro.

Angolan official said that the agreement reflects the good level of relationship that Angola has with Japan, stating that the country has equipment for mine clearance, but need to be repaired, and the present donation will help to remedy the situation.

The signing ceremony will enable the relations between the two countries to be translated into concrete actions to support Angola in the areas it needs.

In turn, Maruhashi Jiro said the agreement signed incorporates the Yokohama declaration, aimed to support comprehensive and sustainable development in Angola.

The Economic and Social Development Programme consists of the donation of accessories for demining machines, mobile workshop, spare parts and training of technicians of the Angola’s National Demining Institute (INAD), as well as the Demining Executive Committee (CED).

The donation is part of the existing cooperation, in the demining sector, between the governments of Angola and Japan.

In Angola, Japan has been operating in several projects, with stress to demining, infrastructure, energy, agriculture, education and health.

Angola imports from Japan goods such as cars, steel, iron and other equipment.

On the other hand, Japan imports mainly crude oil and raw materials from Angola.
