Luanda - The United Nations representative in Angola, Zahira Virani, on Thursday praised the Southern African country’s commitment and concrete actions in mediating conflicts in the region.
The diplomat, who was speaking at the 79th anniversary of the United Nations, highlighted that Angola’s commitment is a clear example of how the country and the UN support each other in finding African solutions to African problems.
Zahira Virani said Angola has demonstrated its commitment to multilateralism, important at a time when the world is immersed in several conflicts.
The UN representative reported that this year, the organization began a new United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation framework for Angola over the next five years, aligned with the government's priorities.
She underlined that the UN is committed to its values, starting with the secretary-general, António Guterres, to those who recently lost their lives, around 250, serving the UN, in Gaza alone.
The UN official recalled that there are only six years left to fulfill the 2030 Agenda and it is fundamental that members look to the Future Pact, in order to discover the best path to accelerate the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) “he said. FMA/ART/TED/AMP
