Lubango - Angolan Bar Association (OAA) called for the need to revise the Decree-Law on Legal Aid, as the current one proved unsuitable when confronted by the current context.
The call was made by OAA chairperson, Luís Paulo Monteiro, during a working visit to the southern Huíla province, where he attended the handover of definitive documents to 15 lawyers, who join the existing 235 operating in the province.
Luís Monteiro urged for urgent change of this legal instrument in order to adapt it to the current scenario of the administration of justice in Angola.
He stated that among the aspects to be improved in Decree Law n.º 15/95, of 10 November, there is the revision of the table of fees, because the current one dates back to 1996.
The official underlined that this is the moment to make an amendment to the legislation. He added the lawyers themselves must also review the schedule of fees, as they often provide services but are paid by the State in an outdated fee schedule.
On the other hand, he said that the procedure in the country's courts continues to be the main cause of the "crisis" of the Angolan justice system, with procedural delays being the main problem in the sector due to various factors. MS/TED/NIC
