Luanda - The US Navy ship USS Hershel "Woody" Willliams (ESB 4) docked Tuesday at Port of Luanda to strengthen cooperation between Angola and the United States in the maritime security field.
According to a statement from the US embassy in Angola that reached ANGOP Wednesday, this is the second visit by a US ship to Angola since 2022.
The visit not only increases operational readiness, but also promotes lasting relations based on trust and military cooperation between the two countries.
On Wednesday, the USS Hershel "Woody" Williams received a visit by senior Angolan government and military leaders.
The crew will take part in community events with local partners.
"This experience will allow sailors and civilians to learn about historical landmarks and experience Angola's rich culture and warm hospitality," the statement said.
The US Navy ship Hershel "Woody" Williams is stationed in Souda Bay, Greece. It is the first Navy ship dedicated to the US Africa Command (AFRICOM) area of responsibility.
It is capable of carrying out expeditionary missions, combating piracy, maritime security, humanitarian operations and disaster relief.
The unique capabilities of Hershel "Woody" Williams are part of the infrastructure system that supports the deployment of forces and supplies to support global missions. EH/ART/AMP
