Luanda - The chairman of the International Swimming Federation (FINA), Husain Al Musallam, said Friday in Luanda that Angola could become the first African country to hold a World Junior Swimming Championship.
Angola has submitted its candidature to host the World Junior Swimming Championships in 2007.
According to the official, Angola has shown, with the organization of the African Championships, that has the capacity to host the world championship.
Husain Al Musallam said that he had discussed with the Angolan Vice-President questions about the importance of water sports for Angolan society, as they are healthy.
He said that a help has been agreed to implement the "Swimming for All" program, and asked for the collaboration of the Angolan authorities, with emphasis on the ministries of Sports and Education.
The official underscored the federation’s willingness to help organize the world event and urged the country to increase its infrastructure to host such a competition, which will be attended by 200 countries.FMA/ART/DAN/AMP
