Moçâmedes - The opening of infrastructure to support the Iona National Park represents the Executive's concern in promoting environmental sustainability and Tourism, the governor of Namibe province, Archer Mangueira, said on Thursday in Moçâmedes.
Speaking to the press, as part of the visit that the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, makes to Namibe from Friday to Sunday, where he will inaugurate the aforementioned infrastructures, he said that they come to signal this priority of the Statesman, who has provided environmental sustainability in a park that is one of the largest in Africa.
The new infrastructure includes 80 rooms, offices and other logistical support areas, which supports the park's scenic beauty.
Archer Mangueira considered the Iona National Park a reference for the protection of biodiversity, from its fauna and flora, which will also be the anchor site for the development of tourism in Namibe.
Regarding the access roads to the Park, Archer Mangueira recognized that they must be improved, to facilitate movement, not only for the population that lives there, but also for tourists.
“It is on the Executive’s agenda to improve access to Iona Park, but there is already a lot of tourism in the desert, with the exploration of the routes that are currently available to people,” he said.
Regarding the local government meeting with the President of the Republic, Archer Mangueira highlighted that he will make a presentation on the status of the Moçâmedes Bay Integrated Development Project.
It should be noted that the same project includes the Rehabilitation of the Saco-Mar Mineral Port and its Pier Bridge, which began last year, the expansion of the Commercial Port, also underway, and the new Container Terminal, among other projects that are being executed.
He informed that detailed information will also be provided on the drought problem, as well as on ongoing projects in the fields of energy and water, road infrastructure, education, health, social security, among other sectors. FA/ART/DOJ
