Moçâmedes - Namibia plans to open, later this year, new border posts in the Monte Negro area, in the Municipality of Tômbwa, in the south-western Province of Namibe, said Tuesday in Moçâmedes City the Namibian Consul-General in Ondjiva Municipality of Cunene Province, Kanaki Tjejamba.
The information was provided to the press at the end of a courtesy meeting which was granted to the diplomat by the provincial governor of Namibe, Archer Mangueira, after the consul-general visited the province as part of bilateral cooperation, adding that the intention was to extend police posts in border areas with greater movement of people.
According to Kanaki Tjejamba, in the Monte Negro crossing area, Angolans travel daily to Namibia in search of some services, such as education, health and trade, without the police control of both countries.
Therefore, he considered it necessary that the authorities of the two countries, which share an extensive border, find a way for better circulation and security of the respective peoples.
He said that Otchifengo and Monte Negro are the areas with the highest crossing of Angolan and Namibian citizens, justifying the need for new police posts to improve migration control.
To him, the migratory situation in this area represents a certain risk, because their crossing is made without security and there is no fee to be charged on both sides, hence the need for the government to establish a strategy to ensure the stability of the two peoples, specifically the creation of border posts.
