Addis Ababa - The United Nations has said it is willing to collaborate with the Angolan state during the exercise of its mandate on the Peace and Security Council (PSC) of the African Union (AU) for the period 2024-2026.
This was expressed by the Assistant for African Affairs of the Secretary General of the United Nations, Martha Ama Akyaa Pobee, to the Permanent Representative of Angola to AU, Ambassador Miguel César Bembe, Tuesday in Accra, Ghana,
Held on the sidelines of the second African Union Reflection Forum on Unconstitutional Changes of Government in Africa, the two diplomats discussed issues related to the promotion of peace and security in Africa, according to a press release from the Angolan Permanent Representation to the AU.
The meeting also analyzed Angola's efforts to pacify the continent, with emphasis on the Great Lakes Region. Martha Pobee praised the role played by Angolan President João Lourenço, as African Union Champion for Peace and Reconciliation, in favor of stability and security in the eastern region of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The note adds that Miguel César Bembe and Marta Pobee also looked at the challenges and opportunities for the implementation of Resolution 2719 of 2023, on the financing of African Union peace support operations, adopted by the 9518 session of the United Nations Security Council. ADR/DAN/AMP
