Luanda - At least 200 doctors specialized in various areas are needed to reinforce health care in Angola’s capital Luanda Cazenga municipality, the local health director Caetano José Miguel said Tuesday.
The information was disclosed at the end of an assessment visit the Angolan president João Lourenço paid to local General Hospital to learn about the state of operation of the premises as well as the work on the operating theatre and the medicines warehouse.
According to the director, the municipality has approximately two million inhabitants and in order to provide satisfactory coverage, around 200 doctors are needed to reinforce the 40 existing doctors.
In addition to this number, the director spoke of the need to increase the number of health units and the network of primary hospitals, adding that the General Hospital receives 1,500 patients every day for treatment in various areas, such as medicine, pediatrics and delivery rooms, among others.
