Lucusse – Close to 500 militants of the Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA) in the eastern province of Moxico on Monday carried out a trip to the commune of Lucusse, commemorating the 50th anniversary of the historic Lunhameje Agreement.
Lunhameje is located 50 kilometers south of the city of Luena and was the place that on October 21, 1974, witnessed the signing of a ceasefire between the MPLA and the Portuguese government, marking the beginning of the country's decolonization process, which took place a year later.
On the occasion, the second provincial secretary of the ruling party in Moxico, Bento Paulino, highlighted the importance of the place, encouraging young people from the party as well as from other organizations to visit these place and other historical points in the province, to gain an in-depth knowledge of the country's history.
The visit to the site was filled with a lecture on the theme "The importance of the Lunhameji Agreements in achieving National Independence", and other fun activities.
